Every October, Zilker Park turns into the loudest 46 acres in Texas. Two weekends, nine stages, more than a hundred bands, and a skyline that keeps changing in the background. Austin City Limits Music Festival started in 2002 as a quick swing by C3 Presents founders Charlie Jones and Charles Attal, who put the whole thing together in about three months and named it after the long-running PBS show. Almost twenty-five years later, ACL is one of the largest music festivals in the country.

The numbers tell the story. Since the city began tracking economic impact in 2006, ACL has generated more than $4.7 billion for Austin, equivalent to nearly 43,000 full-time jobs, according to AngelouEconomics. The festival has also funneled over $71 million into Austin's public parks through its partnership with the Austin Parks Foundation. In 2025 alone, ACL pumped $557.8 million into the local economy and contributed another $8.5 million to citywide park improvements, according to Community Impact.

A few patterns from 25 years of ACL

The headliners drifted from Texas roots-rock and jam bands toward pop, hip-hop, country, and electronic. Ticket prices climbed from $25 a day in 2002 to $375 for a three-day pass in 2026. The lineup grew from 67 acts on five stages to over 130 acts on nine stages. The festival expanded from one weekend to two. The city skyline behind the main stage transformed completely. And through it all, ACL kept growing, kept selling out, and kept pumping hundreds of millions of dollars back into Austin's economy and parks.
